2012's Spring Break from WSU found Merina in Seattle visiting her grandma, sisters, and nieces and nephews. But when she ran out of family, what else could she do while in The Emerald City? Well.... Thanks to great training from the Pullman/Moscow Chapter of the AGO, she could go on an Organ Crawl! Limited time meant limited places, however she did play at the Green Lake Church of the Seventh Day Adventists and Blessed Sacrament Church in the University District.
Here's the view of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, located across the street from Green Lake. Photo by Merina out the car window.
A very nice church with some stained glass. That's Merina at the console, with her mom listening.
A first look at the console of the organ.
Merina, "So many stops. So many choices. Would it be ok if I just pulled them all?"
This organ was "made for playing Boellmann" according to the musician
Another view of the console.
Merina could tell you the use for each of these pedals. Unfortunately, I can't.
Not only a Zimbelstern, but Chimes too! (And, yes... she used them both.)

When in Seattle, what else is an organist going to eat? Fish and Chips, of course. Dad and grandma loved it all. Merina liked the fish but not the 'breading.'
Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in the University District of Seattle. The gothic style church was built in 1908 and went through a massive rennovation in the early 2000's following the Nisqually earthquake. of 2001.
Looking from the vestibule towards the sactuary at Blessed Sacrament Church. The organ is located in the transept on the left.
The tracker action organ was installed in Blessed Sacrament during the early part of the 2000s. It is in a square "box" about 12 feet on a side with the two sides that face the congregation covered by faux pipes. (Merina's grandma Roberta was able to come and listen to her play this afternoon. That's her in front.)
The console, musician and one of the facades.
Merina is trying out some of the stops. Her first two years of organ instruction were on a tracker action organ at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pullman. (If I understood her correctly, there were no stops for the pedals, so they had to be coupled to either the Great or Swell keyboard. )
A closer view of one of the sides of the facade around the organ. (Just to the right of the edge of this picture is a statue of St Francis of Assisi, patron of our new Pope Francis.)
The pipes that don't face the congregation aren't hidden. (The sign is warning people not to touch or lean against the pipes.)
More pipes.
Playing for her supper? No, just practicing for Dr. Savage.
She rose with the sun (ha ha), spent the mornings shopping and visiting family, slaved over organs in the afternoons, then entertained guests at the Manager's Reception in the evenings. The life of a college student on Spring Break.
Where's Merina? She's in there, trust me.
